Kennel plan draws growls
A proposed Robinson Road dog kennel doesn’t seem to be its neighbors’ best friend.
The kennel, proposed by Janet Zehr of Newfane, would be built on a 4.5 acre lot on the north side of Robinson, opposite of the East Canal Road intersection.

Man asks to withdraw plea
A Town of Lockport man who pleaded guilty last month to attempted first-degree criminal sexual act now wants to withdraw that plea.
Shawn McNew, 40, of Fernwood Drive, was in Niagara County Court on Monday to ask Judge Matthew J. Murphy for the withdrawal. Murphy said he will issue a written decision on the withdrawal before the previously scheduled sentencing date of May 7.

Red Creek waterline to be repaired
The Town of Lockport will replace the waterline that runs under Red Creek, a body of water that runs near Ridge Road.
At a work session Wednesday, Town Board members approved the work. The cost of the repairs is expected to be around $92,627, but half of that will be reimbursed by the Town of Newfane, according to Lockport Supervisor Marc R. Smith. -
Town recycling numbers are up
The Town of Lockport seems to have taken a bigger interest in recycling.
At a Town Board meeting Wednesday, Councilman Paul W. Siejak said for all of 2011, the town recycled 27.55 more tons than it did a year ago. Electronics recycling, which the town started in July, totaled 4,914 pounds.
For the electronics recycling, the town receives 5 cents per pound, which means Lockport was paid $245.70. -
IDA borrows $20,000 from town
The Town of Lockport will be loaning $20,000 to its Industrial Development Agency, after Town Board members approved the measure at its year end work session Wednesday.
Board members voted unanimously to approve the loan, which would be used to help the IDA for marketing purposes. The IDA often draws retailers and other businesses to set up shop in the town, which is one of the main functions of the agency. - ENGINEERING: Bartz Road bridge to be replaced this summer The Bartz Road bridge across Mud Creek will be torn out and replaced this summer.
