H.S. ROUNDUP (1/14/10): Lockport bowlers sweep Niagara Falls at Brandt’s
LOCKPORT — Lockport High School bowlers got 700-plus series’ from members of both their boys and girls bowling teams on Thursday, sweeping Niagara Falls in a Niagara Frontier League match at historic Allie Brandt Lanes.
Senior captain Greg Priebe tossed single games of 230, 216 and 279 en route to a 725 series, sparking the Lions past the Wolverines 4-3. With the win, head coach Matt Burt’s team improved to 7-3 in the NFL, winning the pin total 3,809 to 3,671. NFHS dropped to 8-2.
Also for Lockport, junior Cal Rising fired singles of 247, 234 and 215 for a 696 set.
The Wolverines were led by Mike Alex, who shot a 252 single and 644 series.
The Lady Lions made it a home sweep for the blue and gold with a 5-2 win over the Lady Wolverines.
Junior Sam Stachura-Lee rolled a season-high 727 three-game set for LHS. She had single games of 259, 214 and 254. Freshman Bridget Masiello added a 209-201--573 for the Lady Lions, who improved to 7-3 in the NFL.
Christina Juzwicki topped the Lady Wolverines (5-5 NFL) with a 193-232-212--637.
Lockport won the pin count, 3,241 to 3,013.
N-O SWIMMING
Newfane girls unbeaten
MIDDLEPORT — Swim teams from Newfane and Royalton-Hartland remained perfect Thursday in Niagara-Orleans League swim action.
The Lady Panthers improved to 6-0 in the N-O by downing Roy-Hart, 89-81.
Brianna Strong doubled in the 100 free and 100 backstroke for the Newfane girls while Sarah Dimayo took both the IM and 500 free for the Lady Rams (4-2 N-O).
The three-time defending champion Roy-Hart boys’ team stayed perfect by downing visiting Newfane, 118-51.
The Rams were paced by double winners Jason Beabout (200, 500 free), Zach Yates (50, 100 free) and Josh Beabout (200 IM, 100 butterfly).
Elsewhere, Barker (2-4 N-O) gained a split with host Medina, winning the girls’ meet, 99-71. The Mustangs barely won the boys’ meet, 89-81, improving to 3-3 in the league.
The Barker girls were led by double winners Ruth Gendrue in the 200 and 500 freestyle events and Bri Sutch in the 50 and 100 free.
Megan McAnn won the 100 butterfly for Medina.
The quartet of Clay Barna, Andrew Cotter, Sean Evoy and Zach Heil posted a win in the 400 freestyle relay to lock up the victory for the Medina boys.
Heil also took first in the 100 freestyle while Barna won the 100 butterfly, Tim Kaiser the 200 free and Matt Roesler the 100 backstroke.
Phil Schumacher was a double winner in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke for the Raiders (0-6 N-O).
A win in the final event earned the Medina boys squad an 89-81 victory over visiting Barker Thursday as the Seahorses regain the .500 mark at 3-3 in Niagara-Orleans League competition.
Katie Donnelly doubled in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, Amy Jessmer in the 50 free and 100 backstroke and Kaitlyn Miller in the 200 and 500 freestyle to spark the Albion girls past Akron, 55-39.
In the boys’ meet, Ben Schaefer doubled in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly for Akron and Bryan Deibel took both the 200 and 500 free for Albion in Akron’s 50-44 win.
