Lakewomen prevail in N-O girls volleyball showdown

HS ROUNDUP (9/10/12): LHS girls tennis team improves to 3-0. in the NFL

 

ALBION — In a key early season Niagara-Orleans League girls volleyball match-up of last year's top two finishing teams, defending champion Wilson outlasted Albion in five sets on Monday, 25-19, 14-25, 17-25, 25-14, 25-22.

In other N-O action, Medina trimmed host Roy-Hart 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 28-26 and Newfane bested CSAT 25-7, 25-17, 25-12.

Jordan Glosser had 12 spiking kills, Lindsay Bryer eight kills and two blocks and Emily Lasher five blocks to lead the way for Wilson. Glosser served up the final two points in the decisive fifth set.

Cady Messmer had 14 kills, 15 digs and four aces for Albion. Kelsee Soule added five kills and five digs, Aboni Tatylor three kills and three blocks, Brooke Wilson four kills, Brie Dixon 12 digs, Jasmine Smith 10 assists and Halle Jurs nine assists for the Purple Eagles.

Wilson is now 3-0 in the N-O and Albion dropped to 1-1.

 

Medina 3, Roy-Hart 1

MIDDLEPORT — A marathon overtime win in the deciding fourth set earned visiting Medina a wild 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 28-26 victory over Roy-Hart on Monday.

Jessica Rosenbeck served up points 20-24, Abby Button points 27-28 and Jenna Carpenter added a clutch late spike kill to propel Medina to the win in the decisive fourth set.

Courtney VanBuren and Danielle Kindron both had five kills for Roy-Hart.

Roy-Hart tied the match t 1-1 by taking the second set in overtime 26-24 as Morgan Jones served up points 21-26.

Medina improved to 2-1 in the league and Roy-Hart slipped to 1-2.

 

Newfane 3, CSAT 0

Maddy Passuite had four kills and six assists, Claire Puff 15 dis and two aces, Sydney Herlan four kills and two aces and Erica Wright five aces to lead Newfane past CSAT in three straight sets.

The scores were 25-7, 25-17, 25-12.

Newfane is now 1-1 in the N-O and CSAT 0-3.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Starpoint 3, Will. East 0

PENDLETON — Ryan Schwab had seven aces, Brett Kane had 11 assists and Cal Crosby added nine kills for the Spartans (2-2, 1-0 ECIC II) in the 25-19, 26-24, 25-23 win.

 

NFL GOLF

Lockport 266, Lew-Port 294

J.J. Napoli shot 42 at Lockport Town & Country Club to lead head coach Dave Gilson's host Lions (3-0 NFL).

Alex Weaver added a 43 and Evan Williams had a 44 for LHS.

Joe Laurendi and Rob DiBacco each shot 45 for the Lancers (1-2 NFL).

 

N-O GOLF

Akron 232, Wilson 264

AKRON — Akron's Noah Diebel was the match medalist Monday with a round of 42.

With the loss, Wilson dropped to 1-2 in the N-O.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Lockport 4, Ken West 1

BUFFALO — Haley Diamond and Adrienne Folby won singles matches for head coach John Beatty's Lady Lions (3-0 NFL).

Audrey Filey won third singles for the Lady Blue Devis (1-2 NFL).

 

Starpoint 5, WSE 0

PENDLETON — Paulina Masailo, Jasmine Mott and Gillian Mangani swept singles for the Lady Spartans (2-0 ECIC II).

 

FIELD HOCKEY

Starpoint 2, Sweet Home 0

PENDLETON — Emma Miklinski scored both goals for the Lady Spartans (1-1 ECIC) and Charissa Szpaicher got the shutout in goal.
