Lockport High School junior Jose Pagan was named the Niagara Frontier League’s wrestling Sportsmanship Award winner for 2011-12.
Pagan has been a leader over the past three seasons for head coach Joe Scapelliti’s Lions. Pagan began his varsity career in 2009 at 135 pounds and was in the 145-152 range this past winter.
Pagan and three of his teammates, freshman Anthony Orefice, senior Mike Feeney and junior Brad Feeney, were all named to the NFL’s First Team.
Others on the NFL wrestling First Team are Lewiston-Porter’s Dan Reagan (11) and Ryan Kromer (10), Niagara Falls senior Joe DiFrancesco (12) and Wolverines freshmen Donny McCoy (9) and Andrew Shomers (9); Niagara-Wheatfield’s Max Antone (12) and Jake Kelly (12); and Kenmore West’s Dylan Caruana (12), Brandon Lathrop (12), Ron Duguay (11) and Nicolas Burgos (12).
Lockport grapplers named to the NFL’s Second Team are senior Joe Sansone and sophomore Marshall Taylor. LHS sophomore Marcelus Hinton earned Third Team honors.
Meanwhile, Lady Lions juniors Brittany Wright and Bridget Masiello earned First Team NFL honors in girls bowling. Wright averaged 198.74 over 42 games — the second highest girls average in the league, while Masiello averaged 193.78 over 27 games to place fourth overall. North Tonawanda senior Hannah Mosher led the NFL with a 200.08 average over 37 games.
Lions senior Jacob Swartz was named to the NFL’s First Team in boys bowling. Swartz averaged 2009.71 for head coach Marion Singleton’s Lions.
LHS senior Tyler Laubacker (206.19) was named to the Second Team and senior teammate David Poole earned Third Team honors for Lockport.
Seniors Marisa Guyton and Emma Sobieraski join NFL Player of the Year senior Kallie Banker of Grand Island, Lady Vikings junior Cassie Ousler and Niagara-Wheatfield junior Melisa Smith on the NFL’s First Team for girls basketball. Lady Lions sophomore Sara Franco was named to the Second Team and senior Patti Burdick was a Third Team selection for head coach Bill Shaw’s Section VI Class AA championship team.
Lions senior DiAntre Cullens was named to the NFL’s Second Team in boys basketball and senior teammate Nick DiMartile was a Third Team selection. First Team all-stars are Niagara Falls junior Jermaine Crumpton, Ken West seniors Martin Bailey and Quinton Campbell, Lew-Port senior Johnny Dziewit and Niagara-Wheatfield senior Jack Mulcahy.
Lockport’s boys swimming 400 freestyle relay quartet of seniors Andrew Wojcinski, Mike Stroud and Garrett Sheehan and sophomore Derek Secord, were named to the NFL’s First Team. Second Team nods went to Sheehan in the 50 free, Stroud in the 200 free, senior Phil Crane in the 100 breaststroke and the Lions’ 200 free relay team of Secord, Sheehan, Crane and Stroud. Named the Third Team are Lockport’s Crane (50 free), Wojcinski (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke) and Stroud (500 free).
