COLLEGE ROUNDUP (Sept. 27): NU women’s volleyball nets first MAAC win

The Niagara women’s volleyball team’s six freshmen combined for 52 kills, 59 assists and 59 digs as the Purple Eagles defeated Loyola in four sets in Baltimore to claim their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory.

Hanna Hedrick notched career highs with 24 kills, 20 digs and a .346 hitting percentage in the 25-20, (23-25), 33-31, 25-20 win.

“We pulled out a big team win,” said coach Susan Clements. “We had to fill in some holes and we needed players to step up. Hannah really came into her own today, and she is starting to take over matches.”

Niagara is 3-11 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC. Loyola fell to 3-12 and is still in search of its first MAAC win.
