McFall hurls Lockport past Albion, 6-1

H.S. ROUNDUP (4/12/12): Senior catcher Nora Passuite cracks three hits for 2-0 Lady Lions.

LOCKPORT — Lockport used it's arms, gloves and bats to roll over visiting Albion on Thursday, 6-1, in non-league varsity softball action.

Winning pitcher Kassidy McFall hurled a complete-game 4-hitter for head coach Julie Kwoka's Lady Lions, who improve to 2-0   with their second straight non-league victory.

Lockport plays at Starpoint at 3 p.m. to round out its non-league regular-season slate, then opens its 2012 Niagara Frontier   League slate at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Niagara Falls.

The senior right-hander McFall had three strikeouts and just two walks with strong support defensively, especially from fellow   senior Emily Belfield, who made a couple of nice catches in center field.

“Kassidy was in control and threw well for us today,” Kwoka said.

At the plate, the blue and gold were led by senior catcher Nora Passuite, who was 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Junior   Allie Cavagnaro and Belfield added two hits apiece and scored runs. Cavagnaro finished with two RBIs on the day.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning, when the Lady Purple Eagles scored a run. Kelsee Soule doubled,   then singles by Ali O'Hearn and Jenn Knaak scored the run. Knaak finished with two hits on the day.

Lockport answered with four runs in the bottom of the third, then tacked two more on in the bottom of the sixth to round out   the scoring. The blue and gold also benefitted from four stolen bases, courtesy of Belfield, Cavagnaro, Passuite and senior   Danielle Donorovich.

“Everybody saw playing time today, which was good,” Kwoka said.

“I thought we executed the bunt relatively well today. There's still some things that we need to work on. We bunted better   than we swung the bats. Defensively, we played pretty well.

Knaak pitched a strong game for Albion, Kwoka said.

• NON-LEAGUE SOFTBALL

Barker 13, CCA 12

BARKER — Trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh, head coach Shannon McCracken's Lady Raiders came through with clutch   hits to win, improving to 2-2 overall after Thursday's non-league softball win. They remain 1-1 in the Niagara-Orleans League.

In their final at-bat, Barker sophomore Olivia Denny walked, then senior Destiny Metzler singled to put runners on first and   second.

That set the stage for the game-winning hit off the bat of senior Allie Denny, who crushed the ball deep into left field and   plating both her sibling and Metzler to win it.

Metzler picked up the mound win, in relief of freshman starter Destiny Hillman, who tossed an impressive 5 2/3 innings, scattering   five hits with four strikeouts and only five earned runs.

At the plate, Metzler finished with three hits, Allie Denny had two hits and chipping in with one base hit were Hillman, along   with juniors Sydney Webb and Rheanne.

• NON-LEAGUE BASEBALL

LYNDONVILLE — Zach Shaft had a huge game at the plate for head coach Rob Mucha's Raiders (1-5).

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third inning, Barker sophomore Jake Desmarais smacked a bases-clearing double, plating three   runs.

The winning pitcher was Raiders senior Austin Blackley.

Lyndonville scored two runs in the first on a double by Josh Brabon and singles by Brooks Boyle and Jimmy White. A double   by White and single by Alex Rodriguez helped to plate two more runs in the fifth.

Next up, Barker hosts Kendall at 1 p.m. today.
