LOCKPORT —
Two flag football games, including the second annual Lockport police versus firemen contest, are slated for Friday night at Exchange Club Field, Outwater Park.
“Friday Night Flags A-Flyin” begins at 7 p.m. with the annual Lockport Little Loop Football Alumni game.
Former LLLF players and coaches will take part in a split squad scrimmage.
LLLF is looking for its former players to register to play in the game. Players must be 18 or older and pay a $10 registration fee.
Then at 8:30 p.m., its the LPD versus LFD in a flag football contest, won by the LPD, 14-0, a year ago.
The two games are raising money for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
The cost to see the games is just $2, with proceeds helping to pay the medical expenses of two former LLLF players who suffer with Crohn’s disease and to bring awareness to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
Last year’s flag football games raised $3,000 for Kids Escaping Drugs.
“If you’re a former LLLF player or coach and still have some game left in you, then this event is your opportunity to shine again on the grid iron,” said LLLF commissioner Gil Eaton.
“At the same time, you’re helping out a great cause by raising funds to help defray the medical expenses of two former Little Loop players.”
A year ago, Marshall Belling and Kevin Lucinski scored touchdowns to spark the LPD to victory over the LFD.
Mike Stover and Rick Provenzano provided back-to-back diving interceptions for the LPD which scored all of its points in the first half, then held on for the 8-on-8 victory.
LPD quarterback Anthony Palumbo was sharp throughout, tossing a 60-yard touchdown pass to the fleet-footed Belling for the first score. Then Lucinski added the LPD’s other touchdown on a 30-yard interception return. Ben Lesold recorded a pick for the LFD.
In the alumni contest in 2010, the LLLF alumni blanked the Pendleton Athletic Boosters Association (PABA) alumni, 26-0.
Besides Mayor Tucker, other dignitaries in attendance last year included LPD Chief Larry Eggert and Starpoint varsity football head coach Al Cavagnaro.
Hundreds, a majority of which were children, attended the event last year.
To register for the alumni game, contact Tom Waters at 957-0608.
Anyone who is interested in donating a basket for the basket raffle, or to make a donation, contact Karla Bow at 444-1028 or Brandi Sutter at 990-4398.
