H.S. BASEBALL: Visiting Rams clip Wilson, 1-0

WILSON — The visiting Royalton-Hartland Rams avenged an earlier-season Niagara-Orleans League baseball loss to Wilson by edging the Lakemen, 1-0, on Thursday.

Rich Francisconi drove in the game’s lone run for the Rams (5-3 N-O), who lost 11-4 to Wilson last month.

Jud Jamieson pitched the first six inning for Roy-Hart, striking out two. Matt Heschke came in to close out the win, striking out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning.

Wilson dropped to 4-4 in the N-O.

Akron 4, Newfane 3

NEWFANE — A four-run second inning on a three-run double by Ryan Carberry and an RBI single by Bobby Groff provided just enough offense for the visiting Tigers (3-4 N-O).

Akron’s defense came up with a big play to stop a last-ditch Newfane rally as second baseman Nate Jones made a diving catch for the final out with two runners aboard.

Josh Hill went the distance on the mound for the Tigers allowing five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 5-3 in the league.

Albion 11, Medina 0

MEDINA — The Purple Eagles opened up a three-game lead in the N-O, exploding for nine runs in the second inning.

Junior Buddy Keeler went the distance on the mound for Albion, allowing only three hits while striking out 12 and walking none. He also had a big day at the plate with three hits and three runs batted in.

Keeler helped himself in the Purple Eagle decisive second inning banging out a two-run triple and an RBI single. Two other juniors, Nate Lester and Brad Rush, also both had key two-run singles.

Rush later added a two-run single in the fifth frame to round out Albion’s scoring.

Matt Boring had a double for the Mustangs (1-7 N-O).

Softball

Starpoint 5, Lake Shore 3

Krista Longo added two hits and Beth Beutel gave up five hits in getting the win in the circle for Starpoint (5-7, 2-5 ECIC II).
