LOCKPORT —
Lockport bats got into full swing Thursday in the Lady Lions’ 13-2 victory over visiting Kenmore East.
Seniors Emily Belfield and Kelly McKeever went yard and senior Patti Burdick went 4-for-4 and was a vacuum cleaner at short as head coach Julie Kwoka’s team improved to 2-0- in the Niagara Frontier League and are 5-0 overall.
Senior ace Kassidy McFall hurled a two-hitter with three strikeouts for the blue and gold, who face Kenmore West at 4:45 p.m. Monday in a highly-anticipated early-season matchup of league powerhouses.
McFall was in complete control again, striking out three, while McKeever and Belfield swung heavy sticks under sunny skies at LHS.
McKeever finished 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and three runs scored, while Belfield had two big hits, a triple and a dinger with two RBIs and two runs scored.
“We swung the bats real well today,” Kwoka said. “Everybody played as well, which is always nice.”
After shutting down the Lady Bulldogs in the first, Lockport sent seven batters to the plate. McKeever’s two-out homer helped make it 3-0 at the end of one.
Following a scoreless second, the Lady Lions scored five in the third and five more in the fourth to put the game away early.
Ashley Krywcun’s bases-loaded triple was the big hit in the third and Belfield’s home run highlighted the LHS fourth.
Next up is the North Tonawanda Tournament on Saturday. Lockport plays Holy Angels at 9 a.m., then takes on host NT at 11:30 a.m. Then it’s off to Buffalo on Monday to play rival Ken West.
“They’re always a solid team,” Kwoka said. “We’ll need to play errorless ball defensively and swing the bats well at the plate if we hope to win.”

Casey Domski struck out nine in six inning of mound duty for head coach Steve Styrzo’s Lions, who open their NFL season with two straight wins.
At the plate, super sophomore Charlie Sobieraski went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the win.

East Aurora 3
EAST AURORA — A big seven run second inning scoring burst sparked Roy-Hart to a 12-3 non-league win over East Aurora Thursday.
Olivia Kelkenberg had three hits and Brianna Walker two to lead the Roy-Hart attack.
Taylor Fry hurled a five hitter with seven strikeouts for the Lady Rams.

Albion 3.5, Wilson 2
ALBION — Going to 1-1 on the young season, Albion trimmed Wilson 3.5-2 Thursday in a Niagara-Orleans League match.
In the other N-O action, Newfane downed Roy-Hart 3.5-2 and Barker blanked Akron 5-0.
Wilson (1-1) took the first two singles matches on wins by Zach Moxham and George Waters.
Wins at the first two doubles matches by the duos of Kat Jones-Mark Badding and Jared Hutchison-Ryan Obusek keyed Newfane (2-0 N-O) to the victory over Roy-Hart (0-2).
Steve Lakes also won at second singles by Steve Lakes. Roy-Hart got wins by Steve Fernandez at first singles and by Jeff Durbin at third singles.
Wins by the singles trio of Derek Fuerch, Joey Devereaux and Sean Benoit sparked Barker (1-0) to the victory over Akron (0-2).

Nick Young’s singles win clinched the victory for the visiting Jacks (2-0 NFL).
The doubles team of Bailey Reid and J.J. Napoli earned their second win of the season for Lockport (0-2 NFL).
