H.S. SPORTS: LHS fall practices begin next week

Varsity and JV football practices begin on Monday.

LOCKPORT — Fall practice starts for Lockport High School varsity and junior varsity student athletes will begin next week, according to Lockport Athletics Director Patrick Burke.

Varsity and JV football practices will begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday at the school. The varsity team, under the direction of Greg Bronson, will meet in the new gym, and the JV squad will meet in the old gym.

LHS boys soccer coaches Jeff Hulshoff and Mike Finnerty are also set to kickoff their first fall practices late next week. Hulshoff’s varsity Lions and Finnerty’s JV Cubs will open their practice slates with workouts from 8 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 20, behind the school. Also beginning practices at the same time and place will be the varsity and JV soccer Lady Lions and Cubs.

Other LHS fall sports will wait a week to begin their first practices.

The Lady Lions swim team begins with a practice at 9 a.m. on Aug. 24 at the LHS pool.

Also beginning fall practices on the same day will be LHS cross country, golf and girls tennis squads. The boys and girls cross country team will meet for the first time at 8:30 a.m. in the LHS new foyer, golf will meet at 11 a.m. at the Niagara County Golf Course and girls tennis from 9 to 11 a.m. at the LHS tennis courts.

Lockport boys and girls varsity and JV volleyball teams won’t meet for the first time until Aug. 25. The Lady Lions and Lady Cubs will meet at 8 a.m. in the new gym, while the boys varsity and JV practices will be split, with the JV meeting at 8 a.m. in the LHS old gym and the varsity at 10:30 a.m. in the old gym.

Also getting ready to open their fall practice sessions are Lockport modified athletes at North Park and Emmet Belknap middle schools.

Modified football practices for both begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 24 at their respective schools

Modified girls volleyball teams for both schools will meet on Sept. 9.
