LOCKPORT —
Sign-ups for the 2011 Lockport Summer Recreation Tennis Program begin next week at the Altro Park tennis courts on Willow Street, near Transit.
This year’s program will begin later this month and conclude in early August.
Youth classes are offered in two sessions about three weeks in length each, depending on the level: Beginner to advanced beginner and intermediate to advanced. The first session is June 27 to July 16 and the second session is July 18 to Aug. 4. Classes will run two or three days per week, for 45 minutes from 8:15 to noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Adult classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays between June 27 and July 28, according to ability level: Beginner, advanced beginner to intermediate or intermediate to advanced. Classes will held in the evenings at 5:10, 6:10 and 7:10 p.m. Dates are June 27 and July 7, 14, 18, 21 and 25.
All lessons are part of the Lockport Department of Youth and Recreation Services’ Summer Recreation Program.
Youth session costs are $40 per person, per session ($60 if two in the family, and $75 for three or more). Adult session costs are $40 per person or $60 per couple.
Head instructor is Lockport High School boys varsity tennis coach Dave Shambach, a United States Tennis Professionals Association member and 36-year veteran of the program. Shambach will be assisted by former LHS players Allison Beatty, Brandon Pawlinski and Megan McAvoy, along with current members of local tennis teams.
Sign-ups begin on Monday. Register between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Altro Park tennis courts. In case of rain, go to the youth bureau building. Additional sign-up dates are 9:30 to 11 a.m. on June 18 and 6 to 8 p.m. on June 22.
