YOUNGSTOWN —
Lockport wrestlers of all ages and sizes found last weekend’s road trip to the Lewiston-Porter Tournament a most memorable one.
Head coach Joe Scapelliti’s Lions had three first-place finishers on Saturday as the Lions captured the 2012 Pete Rao Lewiston-Porter Invitational Tournament. Meanwhile, the Lockport Kids Wrestling Club won the Lew-Port Youth Wrestling Tournament the following day.
Seven LHS varsity Lions reached the finals. Anthony Orefice, Brad Feeney and Marshall Taylor took first place at the event, while Mike Feeney, Jose Pagan, Josh Steinman and Joe Sansone each took second place. Also for the blue and gold, Alex Senko, Chris Clay and Marcellus Hinton finished fourth.
Twenty-four hours late, it was the Lockport Kids Wrestling Club’s turn, with the Little Lions capturing the Lew-Port Youth Wrestling Tournament on Sunday, finishing ahead of Niagara-Wheatfield and Newfane.
There were 32 LKWC members participating, some seeing action in their first-ever wrestling tournament.
Taking first for the Little Lions were Shey Williams, Tommie Kramer, Andy Lucinski, Kai Tran, Kamron Williams, Josh Gill, Jared McFall, Chris Duncanson, Mitch Seaver, Tom Wendt, John Wendt and Dontay Gill.
Placing second for Lockport were Jackson Doran, Travis Keen, Julius Williams, Chaz Anderson, Steve Kapuscinski, Brad Straw, Mark Cye and Mike Daskavitz. Placing third for the LKWC were Luke Gulczewski, J.R. Leuer, Sammy Marquez, Kevin Gamache, Mark Sanders, Connor Doran and Kyle Full. Jaden Lange and Mike Hopica placed fourth for Lockport.
In all, the Lockport Kids Wrestling Club has 59 members and are coached by Kevin Lucinski, Terry Gill, Chris Duncanson, Gerry Kapuscinski and Jimmy Leuer.
“These kids are doing great this year and as an organization, we are all very proud of them,” Lucinski said.
Next up for the LKWC on Feb. 12 is the Royalton-Hartland Jr. Rams Youth Wrestling Tournament in Middleport.
