FREDONIA — A Starpoint High School graduate is ranked seventh in the nation in Division III three-point shooting at Fredonia State University.

Amir Billups, the son of Carmen and Edward Billups and a 2008 graduate of Starpoint, has connected on 39 of 82 attempts from beyond the arc, good for 47.6 percent — best in  SUNYAC men’s basketball.

In addition, the 6-2 guard averages 2.6 treys per game, 76th in NCAA D-III.

One of the scrappiest two-way players in Starpoint boys basketball history, Billups averaged 18.3 points per game, as well as two steals and two-and-a-half assists per game in his senior season as the play-making point guard on head coach Dave Schopf’s team.

Billups, whose 855 career points is sixth all time at Starpoint, did not play last year.

In 2009-10, the business administration major (minor in sport management) raised his scoring average to 6.9 points per game and was first on the team in three-point attempts, attempts and percentage (36 of 85, 42.4%).

In his freshman season 2008-09, Billups averaged 1.2 points in 15 games. He proudly wears No. 32 at Fredonia — the same number he wore at Starpoint.

Fredonia sophomore guard Becky Hebert (Hilton) is tied for eighth in scoring nationally at 21.2 points per game. She and Plattsburgh’s Kathleen Payne have each tallied 275 points in 13 games. In addition to their No. 8 spot in the nation, they share the SUNYAC scoring lead.

PENDLETON — Eric and Bob Adams combined for a 1,759 series to win the Adult-Child No-Tap Tournament at South Transit Lanes.

Second at 1,680 were McKenzie McFarlone and Kelly Masiello, followed by Bridget Masiello and Stephano Cirreto at 1,673.

Kelly Masiello rolled two no-tap perfect games and finished with a tourney-high 860 series.

Other 300s were rolled by Bob Adams, Jerry Gibson and Bridget Masiello.
