A Grand splash

Lady swim Lions remain unbeaten with NFL win at Grand Island

GRAND ISLAND —  

Karly Hartz was a double individual winner and fellow Lockport senior Paige Kelkenberg remains unbeaten in diving as the Lady swim Lions splashed past Grand Island, 133-51, to remain undefeated (2-0) in the Niagara Frontier League.
Hartz won both the 200 freestyle (2:03.39) and the 100 freestyle (:57.96) as head coach Kristen Smith’s team placed first in every event and swept the meet’s three relays.
Also victorious for LHS was defending sectional and league diving champion Kelkenberg, who placed first in her event with 215.93 points. Allison DeMartin of the Lady Vikings was second (185.7).
Other individual winners for Lockport were senior Danielle Dembrow in the 200 individual medley (2:26.45), senior Hailey Stapleton in the 50 freestyle (:27.12), sophomore Jessica Cinelli in the 100 butterfly (1:04.99), sophomore Elizabeth Connolly in the 500 freestyle (5:26.65), sophomore Kristina Connolly in the 100 backstroke (1:07.76) and junior Roserita DiMillo in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.89).
Among the runner-up finishers for the blue and gold was seventh grader Katie Pollock in both the 200 IM and 100 back. Other LHS second-place finishers were Kristina Connolly (50 free), DiMillo (100 fly) and Stapleton (100 free).

Lockport 255, Grand Island 261
GRAND ISLAND — Evan Williams was the low man for Lockport (8-1 NFL) after shooting a 41.
Kevin Borowicz and Aaron Schauger were co-medalists for Grand Island (5-4 NFL) with a 40. 
 
N-O GOLF
Newfane 233, RoyHart 259
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — At Oak Run, medalist Josh Gmerek, a Panthers junior, carded a 45, as head coach Doug Ames’ team improved to 5-4-1 in the N-O.
Also for Newfane, Paul Tilyou and Connor Duncan shot 46s, Tyler Gerhardt fired a 48 and Zach LaJoie shot a 49.
Topping the winless Rams was Justin Czaja with a 51.
 
Barker 215, Albion 246
ALBION — Albion’s John Kreiger was the match medalist with a card of 37.
The low man for Barker was Mitch Luckman with 39. Also for head coach Tim Daley’s undefeated Raiders (11-0 N-O), Nick Provencher and Alonzo St. Louis both shot 44.
 
Wilson 253, CSAT 271
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — At Willowbrook on Tuesday, Wilson defeated visiting CSAT to improve to 4-6-1 in the N-O.
The Lakemen were led by Brandon Seider and Connor Seeley, who both shot 46. 
Topping CSAT was match medalist Greg Deas with a 42.
 
FIELD HOCKEY
Barker 9, Medina 0
MEDINA — First-place visiting Barker routed Medina at Vets Park on Tuesday evening to remain unbeaten at 5-0 in Niagara-Orleans League competition.
Kayla Moeller scored five goals, three in the first half, to spearhead the Barker attack. Kim Zaepfl, Morgan Brown, Gabriella Clare and Makenzi Strickland each netted one.
Barker led 6-0 at the half.
The loss dropped the Lady Mustangs to 0-4-1 in the N-O.
 
Akron 6, Newfane 1
AKRON — Alisha Bell scored three goals, Cate Kelkenberg two and Molly Jennings one for the Lady Tigers (4-1 N-O).
Leah Good netted the lone goal for Newfane (1-4-1 N-O).
 
Kenmore 7, Wilson 2
Kaeli Mathias scored four goals to lead the way as Kenmore (4-1 N-O) bested winless Wilson to maintain a share of second place with Akron.
 
 
Roy-Hart 6, Buff Sem 1
In a non-league contest Tuesday, Paige Flynn scored two goals as Marissa Catalano, Kylie Majka, Casidhe Heschke and Mariah Rees each netted one to lead the balanced attack for the Lady Rams against Buffalo Seminary.
