Lockport district adopts tax hike
Thanks to an extra $1 million in aid after last week’s passage of a state budget, Lockport City Schools will be raising its tax levy by 1.5 percent, well below its legal limit.
The $79.8 million budget is an $894,791 or a 1.13 percent increase in spending from the current school year. It’s about $500,000 more than the budget presented last month, which was before a state budget was passed last week.

LEFFLER: Arizona tragedy beyond politics
All I could think about was that there somewhere in Arizona was a guy — probably about my age — who had a daughter — just about my youngest daughter’s age — earlier that morning. And now he doesn’t.
