LOCKPORT —
Lockport Police are seeking three suspects allegedly involved in the attempted theft of a $2,650 ring from Mills Jewelers on Saturday.
According to the police report, two African American males and a female entered the store at about 2 p.m. and created distractions to separate the staff and to get valuable jewels on top of the counters from within the secured cases. After being in the store for about 25 minutes, one of the male suspects along with the female suspect cut a security cable holding a ring.
The cut cable created an alert to the staff and the suspects were confronted. The female suspect, who had reddish hair, surrendered the ring when challenged by staff. She told the staff it must have slipped off her finger into her purse.
The ring was recovered and the three suspects left the store, getting into what is believed to be a silver or gray Chrysler 300.
“I believe it is likely they were at other retail locations in the region doing the same thing,” said Detective Scott Seekins.
The suspects appear to range from 30-to-50 years old and are between 5-foot-8 and 6-feet of average build. One male is balding, the other had a fur hat.
Lockport police is looking to identify the trio and to make other retail stores aware of the activity and suspects.
Based on the investigation and video, they worked together to steal property, because the ring was removed from a security cable without employee knowledge. It is a larceny even though the ring was recovered. The suspects also committed criminal mischief in destroying the security cable.
