STOLEN PROPERTY: Glenn L. Fariss, 47, 270 Lake St., Wilson, was arrested Sunday on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property. According to the report, Fariss had brought his vehicle to Image Collision for repairs March 10 and had received a loaner vehicle valued at $3,000. Police were called to the business Tuesday to assist in a repossession of Fariss’ vehicle, due to non-payment. He was notified of the incident and advised to return the loaner vehicle, which he said he would do. He was contacted two more times and was advised that he is not to be in operation or possession of the vehicle. Fariss was located by police Friday and brought to LPD for processing. He is scheduled to appear Monday in City Court.
HYPODERMIC NEEDLE: Nathaniel D. Smith, 32, 198 Lock St., Apt. 3, was charged Saturday with false personation and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle. According to the report, police observed an impaired man wearing a hooded sweatshirt walking at a fast pace at the corner of Lock and Washington streets. When questioned, he allegedly gave police a false name, but the officer recognized the man as Smith, who had outstanding warrants. He was arrested and placed in the back seat of the patrol car, but reportedly began to move from side to side while being transported. A search of the back seat revealed a white/orange syringe and a cellophane container with a small quantity of off white substance beneath the seat cushion, according to the report. The items were not there when the vehicle was inspected earlier in the day. The report said Smith denied the needle was his, but later told police “I may have had two on me, I’m not sure, but I have a needle exchange card.” He was unable to produce the card, police said. Smith is scheduled to appear Monday in City Court.

FIRE: Several animals perished Saturday in a fire that fully engulfed two barns at a Ridge Road farm. According to the report, Sheriff’s officers were dispatched to the farm, where the property owner and his family were attempting to remove around 40 cows that were in the barns. Not all of the animals were able to be saved before multiple fire units were able to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
