n Deadline for registering for the Teen Shooting Academy. Rifle and handgun classes are held at the Mohawk Rifle and Pistol Club in Tonawanda; shotgun classes are held at the West Falls Conservation Society. Handgun classes begin Feb. 22 for students ages 14 to 20. A $30 fee includes cartridges, targets, books and use of all shooting equipment. Eight classes in session the second and fourth Monday of each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 begins the shotgun class for ages 12 to 20. Cost is $50. CONFER: High school sports need a boost
Rick DeWaters and his friends in the Royalton-Hartland Sports Boosters Club did something this year that could be considered miraculous. They saved the school district’s athletics program by securing the funding necessary to keep alive football and fall and winter modified sports — programs that were victims of budget cuts last spring.
