Charles J. Montedoro

LOCKPORT — Charles J. Montedoro passed away on March 1, 2013, surrounded by his  loving family, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Charles was born September 18, 1930 in Lockport, the son of Marino and Josephine (Enzinna) Montedoro.

Charles played for the Esso Semi-Pro Football team before entering Edinboro State Teachers College, graduating in 1959. Upon returning to Lockport, he received a teaching position with the Lockport School System and taught History for 30 years, retiring in 1989. While teaching at the Lockport High School, he became the football coach and held that position from 1967 to 1980. He also refereed basketball for 25 years, retiring in 1989. "Chuck" also was a part-time Niagara County Sheriff  Deputy from 1958 to 1991. A member of  St. Joseph's Church, he was active in the Holy Name Society and served on the Church Council. His real enjoyment came when he and family and friends would go to the cabin he built in 1973 in Allegany State Park, where he spent his carefree time hunting and fishing which he loved.

He was the husband of Catherine (Porretta) Montedoro, whom he married in 1962 in            St. Joseph's Church; father of Charles (Rena) Montedoro, Carla (Steve) Anderson, both of  Lockport, Cathy Jane (Gregory) Kowalski of North Carolina, and Caryn (Matthew) Robins of Cambria. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; brother of Maureen Hildreth of Lockport and the late Joseph Montedoro, Nina Sperduti and Angeline Rosselli; he also leaves his sister-in-law, Gail Montedoro; and several nieces and nephews. He also was predeceased by his grandson, Zachary Anderson.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 5-9 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, where prayers will be offered on Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 AM in All Saints Parish Oratory, 391 Market Street, Lockport, NY. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, would be appreciated by the family.
