Karen A. Hughes, of Newfane, entered into rest on April 6, 2012 in Strong Memorial Hospital. Karen was born in Lockport, NY, on October 8, 1944. Daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Wharton Hayden.
Karen owned and operated the Newfane Depot for 29 years. She was a supporter of local charities. Karen enjoyed camping, dirt-track racing, crocheting and reading. She also loved traveling to Florida and spending time with her family. Karen was a member at St. Brendan on the lake.
Mother of Vicki (Gary) Gow of Olcott, NY, Tammy Hughes of Newfane, NY and the late Anita Hughes. Sister of Richard (Shirley) Hayden of Lockport, NY and the late John Hayden. Sister-in-law of Lynn Hayden of Barker, NY. Lifelong companion of John Hughes of Newfane, NY. Grandmother of Jessica, Raymond, Ryan, Samantha and Gary. Great-grandmother of Mackenzie and Trent. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY 14108 on THURSDAY from 5-9 PM. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
