NEWPORT NEWS, VA —
Peter Joseph Tomaino, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 27, 2013, surrounded by his precious family. Born and raised in Lockport, NY, he was the son of the late Peter Anthony Tomaino and Pauline Siracusa Tomaino, first-generation Italian-Americans. In his 20s, Peter was a boxer, winning 49 amateur and five professional bouts. He was a WWII Army veteran and worked construction for over 30 years as a member of the Niagara Falls Laborers Local 91. Peter was an avid gardener and golfer and loved to dance and sing. He loved the NY Yankees and the Buffalo Bills - whether they were winning or not. Peter and his family moved to Newport News in 1997, and he absolutely loved Virginia. Until dementia overtook his life, Peter was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church and the Knights of Columbus, and attended Christ United Methodist Church with his family.
Peter is survived by his wife, Kathleen; sons, Ronald, Daniel, Joseph and Peter Justin of Newport News, VA, Robert (Molly) of Dayton, TN, and Paul (Claire) of Lockport, NY; daughters-in-law, Leslie and Emanda; and his grandchildren, Heather, Evan, Cameron, Alexander, Lucianna, Benjamin and Lydia. Peter was the favorite son-in-law of Ronald and Jean McMorris of Lockport, NY, and is also survived by his sister, Jean Liuzzi; and in-laws, Jackie (Rod) Cague, Vicki (Norm) Ross, Cindy Ward, Bill (Patti) McMorris and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Peter is dancing in heaven with the angels and we will miss his silly jokes, but cherish all of the memories.
A Remembrance service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 133 Deep Creek Road, Newport News, VA 23606, on Sat., Feb. 2, 2013, at 6 PM. Contributions to the CUMC Playground Fund would be appreciated by the family.
