Eugene "Skimo" Kearns

LOCKPORT — Eugene "Skimo" Kearns, of Lockport, NY,  entered into rest on December 27, 2012, at Odd    Fellow and Rebekah Health Care Facility, Lockport NY. He was born in Lockport on January 1, 1928, the son of the late Edward E. and Maude (Ryan) Kearns.

Mr. Kearns was a lifelong resident of Lockport and a member of St. Patrick's RC Church. He had been active in politics with the Republican Committee and an Alderman for many years.

He owned a printing business, Kearns the Printer, from 1954 until his retirement in 1993. He also worked as Building Superintendent at the courthouse during the 1960s and 1970s.

He was a veteran of the US Army, having enlisted in 1945, just after turning 17 and served in Alaska. Upon his return home, his friends nicknamed him Skimo (for Eskimo).

Through the years, Mr. Kearns enjoyed tennis, golf, baseball, horse racing and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Conert Carlson Kearns; step-daughter, Ellie  Carlson (Steve) Stone of Newfane; step-son, Cliff (Kathy) Carlson; his sister, Monica (Dick) Intihar and sister-in-law, Peggy Kearns, all of Lockport. He leaves four grandchildren, Scott Stone of Lockport; Matt (Amy) Stone of Central Square, NY; Laura Carlson and Dave Carlson, both of Lockport, and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Natalie Stone. Mr. Kearns was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Matt and his sisters,        Margaret Mary, Maud, Betty and Margery Kearns. He is also survived by four nephews, Mike, Joe, Ed and Pat Kearns; and a niece, Roxy Kerns.

Relatives and friends may call at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, NY, on Sunday, Dec. 30th, from 2-5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 31st, at 10 AM in All Saints Church, Church St., Lockport, NY. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
