WOLCOTTSVILLE —
Carl J. "Carly" Schubel of Wolcottsville, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, August 5, 2012. Carl was born on April 19, 1935 at the family homestead in Wolcottsville, the son of the late John C. and Louise (Bruning) Schubel.
He was a graduate of Akron High School Class of 1954. Better known to his family and friends as Carly, Mr. Schubel was employed by the Town of Royalton starting in 1960. In 1980, Mr. Schubel was elected as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Royalton, and held the position for ten years, making safety of the roads a top priority no matter what the season was. Carl was a lifetime member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. He proudly served as a volunteer fireman for the Wolcottsville Fire Company joining in the 1950's serving for over 15 years. He held the position of Assistant Chief at one time, and also was a member of the fireman's drum and bugle corps. Carly enjoyed riding his bike often stopping to chat and share a few jokes with his many friends. He also enjoyed yard work and tending his garden for many years. Most of all was his pride and joy, his three grandchildren, whom he cherished and loved dearly as well as his family.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Wagner) Schubel, whom he married on April 27, 1957. Dear father of Laura (Todd) Peters. Proud and cherished grandfather of Lindsay, Sara and Ryan Peters. Brother of the late Earl Schubel. Brother-in-law of Adeline Schubel. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM in St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 6379 Wolcottsville Rd., Wolcottsville. Pastor Bruce Donley will officiate. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, W. Shelby, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Carly's memory to St. Michael's Church.
