BARKER —
Franklin A. Gurman, 78, of Barker, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his home.
Born on October 28, 1933 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Lydia (Hertzberger) Gurman.
On February 14, 1953, he married the former Faith B. Wagner, together making their home in Barker and raising six children. In April, 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in France. On returning home he was employed for 35 years with the Dept. of Transportation in Lockport, starting out as a laborer and retiring as a supervisor in 1990. Mr. Gurman was a member of the 33 Degree Mason Somerset Lodge. He enjoyed sawing wood, farming and spending time with his children. He was known for his dry sense of humor and giving of himself to help others.
He is survived by six children, Darlene (Anthony) Wagner, William, Arthur and James Gurman, Rose Ann (Anthony) Doty, all of Barker, and Jeanne (Daniel) Strauss of Lockport. Also, 14 grandchildren, Tammy, Tara, Dusti, Heather, Jamie, Jimmy, Amber, Molly, John, David, Daniel, Carl, Brittney and April and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Don) Ganton of Watkins Glen; sister-in-law, Maude Reimer of Newfane; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Fredrick Gurman.
