Gertrude Beckwith, of Barker, NY, wife of the late William E. Beckwith, Jr., entered into rest Friday, May 11, 2012 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Newfane, NY. She was born in Buffalo, NY, November 16, 1927. Gertrude married William E. Beckwith, Jr., July 21, 1950, in Barker Methodist Church. He died August 18, 2007. Gertrude had lived all her life in Barker, NY. Member of Faith United Methodist Church in Barker and was very active in church activities. She also did missionary work in Africa and traveled to Oklahoma for mission work with the Cherokee Indians. Gertrude and Bill had a cabin at Houghton College named after them for all the work and donations.
Mother of Bruce Beckwith of Barker, NY and Brian (Carrie) Beckwith of Cassadaga, NY. Grandmother of Leslie, Samantha, Kassandra and Luke Beckwith. Great-grandmother of Nevada Beckwith. Sister of Evelyn Riley of Middleport, Burton (Dee) Dietrich of Johnson Creek, Vera (George) Fielder of Newfane, Lynda (Robert) Higley of Medina, and the late Charles Dietrich. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
No prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 1449 Quaker Road, Barker, NY, WEDNESDAY, May 23, 2012, at 7:00 PM. Memorials to Faith United Methodist Church, 1449 Quaker Road, Barker, NY 14012, would be appreciated by the family.
