LOCKPORT —
Sara M. Macaluso, of Lockport, entered into rest on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Born on August 14, 1919 in Mt. Morris, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Anna Mulley Macaluso.
Sara graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1938. In 1939, she attended Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw, NY, where she obtained her New York State License and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1942. She came to Lockport in 1943 and worked at Lockport Memorial Hospital. She worked mostly in the Maternity Ward from 1943-1949, that was where she met her husband to be, who was an intern while attending UB Medical School. On November 15, 1947, she married Dr. James E. Macaluso, M.D. Sara maintained her nursing license throughout most of her life as well as helping her husband in his medical office. Sara was a member of the Wyoming County Community Hospital Nurses Alumni, St. Joseph's Church Altar & Rosary Society, Lockport Memorial Hospital Guild and the American Red Cross. She was also an avid bowler. Sara was a resident of the Lockport Presbyterian Home and the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Care Center for the past ten years.
Sara's husband, Dr. James E. Macaluso, MD, passed away on August 21, 1986. Mother of James T. (Diane) Macaluso and Thomas P. Macaluso, both of Lockport; grandmother of Elizabeth Erickson of Potsdam, Connie (Joshua) Dickerson of Chesterfield, VA, Sara Macaluso of Rochester and Michael Macaluso of Lockport; great-grandmother of Keira and Siena Dickerson; sister of Rose Valentino of Mt. Morris, NY and the late Nick and Frank Macaluso, Sue (Dominic) Fasso, Carrie (Victor) DeFranco and Ann (John) Haywood; dear friend of Fanny Orlando; also survived by family and friends.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home, Niagara at Transit, where the funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 9:15 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Parish Oratory, 391 Market St. at 10 AM. Interment Cold Spring Cemetery. Arrangements by Provenzano Memorial Chapel, Mark C. Provenzano, Director.
