MEDINA —
Russell J. Mondo, 88, of Medina, entered into rest Friday night, April 27, 2012 in the Medina Memorial Hospital.
Born December 12, 1923 in Batavia, Russell was the son of the late Joseph and Eva (Monacelli) Mondo. He was a graduate of Medina High School, Class of 1941. Mr. Mondo was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army Air Corp as a Radio Technician. Returning home, he was employed by the United States Postal Service in Medina and retired after 32 years as a Supervisor in 1978. Russell was a member of Boy Scouts of America, was 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he also served as Grand Knight, and was a drummer for the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp. Russell will be fondly remembered for always being ready with a camera at family events.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Rita (Fraczak) Mondo of Medina; his brother, Caesar (Harriet) Mondo of Lockport; sisters, Mary (late Warren) Scarlett and Teresa (late John) Poler, both of Lyndonville; sisters-in-law, Irene Sterling of Rochester and Lucretia Fraczak of Medina; also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Russell was also godparent to many.
A memorial mass will be celebrated May 12th, at 1PM at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary's Church in Medina. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by Lincoln Post #1483, VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion. Arrangements were completed by Cooper Funeral Home, Medina. Flowers are gratefully declined.
