Dr. Robert Sherk

LOCKPORT — Dr. Robert Sherk entered into rest July 8, 2012, at Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born     December 12, 1920, he was the son of Lloyd and Magdalena Sherk.

Robert served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II from 1943-1945. He was a bombdider in B-24s, flying 21 missions over Germany and Austria. He was a prisoner of war for over one year in Germany in the Camp Stalag 3. Robert received various medals for dedication and service to his country.

Dr. Sherk then went on to John Hopkins University where he received his doctorate degree Summa Cum Laude. He taught at the University of Maine Bangor until 1962, then went to the   University of Buffalo, where he retired from in 1990. He was a professor in the Classics           Department at UB, where he published and wrote many text books and publications for Cambridge University of England.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Schiffano) Sherk on September 17, 1999.

He was the beloved father of Kenneth (Anna) Sherk. Cherished grandfather of Alicia.              Step-grandfather of Michael (Kristina) Della Penna. Step-great-grandfather of Siena and Mikey Della Penna.

There will be NO PRIOR VISITIATON. Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Interment in St. John's Cemetery. Arrangements by the Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home, corner of Transit and Niagara Streets.
