Richard Edward Thompson, of Newfane, NY, passed away on July 2, 2012, following a brief illness.
He spent many years raising his family in Lockport. While in Lockport he worked as a machinist for Kohler Machine. After his wife, Constance Susan (Wynes) Thompson, passed away in 1983, Richard moved to Cocoa Beach, FL and later to Charlotte, NC, where he continued working as a machinist for Parker-Hannifin Corporation. He retired from Parker and lived out his remaining years in his hometown of Newfane, where he was born on October 23, 1932.
Richard proudly served in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. Richard was a longtime car racing enthusiast and really enjoyed watching and talking about racing with friends and family. He loved to cook and looked forward to planning out and preparing Sunday meals.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Ivy; wife, Constance Susan (Wynes) and her parents, Robert and Shirley Wynes; son, Jeffrey (Lori) Thompson; sister, Marjorie Hillman; brother, Albert Thompson; brother-in-law, James Finley and niece, Debbie Ferree.
Richard is survived by his sons, Richard (Debbie) Thompson of Brighton, England and Stephen (Cathy) Thompson of Liverpool, NY; his sister, Gladys Finley; great-niece, Sarah Ferree; his grandchildren, Nicole, Joseph, Robert, Morgan, Aaron and Shane Thompson; as well as great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY, SATURDAY 4-7 PM, where funeral services will be held TUESDAY, JULY 17th, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Corwin Cemetery, Newfane, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the cancer charity of one's choice.
