Marguerite R. Dyer

NIAGARA FALLS —  

Marguerite R. (Slattery) Dyer, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in Niagara Falls, NY, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on September 14, 1917 in Lockport, NY, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Condren) Slattery.
Mrs. Dyer attended schools in Lockport, NY, and graduated from Lockport High School in 1936. In 1940, Marge, as she was known by family and friends, earned her degree in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary's School of Nursing. She served as a 1stLieutenant in the United States Army, during World War II, in the United States Army Nurse Corps, from October 2, 1943 until her honorable discharge on February 25, 1947. While serving, Mrs. Dyer was awarded the American Theater of Operations Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In 1948, Marge married Michael J. Dyer, Sr. He predeceased her on October 24, 1991. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many private physicians in Niagara Falls, NY and later for Mount Saint Mary's Hospital, until her retirement in 1981. Mrs. Dyer was a communicant of St. John de LaSalle Roman Catholic Church, where she served on their Altar and Rosary Society as well as the Parents Association for St. John de LaSalle School. Marge also served as a volunteer for the local girl scouts and cub scouts.
Mrs. Dyer is survived by two children, Sharon E. Dyer of Arlington, VA and Lawrence J. (Christine) Dyer of Red Bank, NJ; and was predeceased by one son, Michael J. (AnnMarie of Peoria, AZ) Dyer, Jr. Marge is also survived by four grandchildren, Kevin and David Dyer and John and James Dyer; one brother, Philip Slattery of Rhode Island and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was predeceased by four siblings, Francis "Red" (late Norma) Slattery, Charles (late Peggy) Slattery, Esther (late John) Simpson and Mary Elizabeth (late Lenard) Matusak.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 4-7 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007). Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 12th at 11:00 AM which will be celebrated in St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Slawomir Siok, SAC serving as celebrant. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
