Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A North Tonawanda grandmother was arrested Friday after letting her unlicensed 14-year-old grandson drive.
Susan A. Rees, 53, of Central Lane, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and multiple related charges.
City of Tonawanda police were patrolling Young Street when an officer’s plate reader indicated the vehicle carrying Rees and her grandson had an expired registration due to an insurance lapse earlier this month. Upon pulling over the car, officers found the juvenile behind the wheel.
When they asked Rees why the child was driving, she said she’d let him drive because she did not have a driver’s license. A check of DMV records indicated Rees only has a non-driver’s ID.
Officers had the car towed and brought the pair back to the police station. Rees is being held in lieu of $250 bail. The child was returned to his mother’s custody and Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
