Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — With facility expansion this year, Diversified Manufacturing Inc. will have 165 employees under one roof.
The city planning board on Monday approved DMI’s site plan for a 37,000-square-foot addition at 410 Ohio St. DMI owner Brian Costello intends to bring work and employees from a sister company, Amherst-based Ipac Inc., to Lockport.
In describing the expansion project earlier this week, a DMI consultant undercounted the numbers of existing DMI and Ipac employees.
Diversified designs, manufactures and assembles precision equipment and parts for various industries including medical/pharmaceutical, chemical, energy, green energy and the golfing industries; major customers include Carrier Corp., Cameron Compression Systems, Ingersoll Rand and General Electric. DMI is an around-the-clock operation with employees working three shifts. It is, according to Costello, one of the largest private employers in the City of Lockport.
Costello, who’s attending a trade show in California and was interviewed by telephone Tuesday, said Ipac is the third small fabrication/production shop that he’s folded into DMI from Erie County since the 1990s. DMI and Ipac engineering and assembly staff have been rotated between work sites as needed the past few years, while equipment was updated at both sites, he added.
Ipac’s relocation to Ohio Street should be complete by the end of summer, he said.
Costello declined to estimate the value of the DMI expansion project, citing proprietary concerns. He did say the company “probably” will seek a Payment In Lieu of Taxes agreement on the expanded portion, as well as state financial incentives for job retention.
