Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NEWFANE — A man who displayed no weapon held up the Bank of America at 2700 North Main St. in the Newfane about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and eluded a law enforcement dragnet.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a robbery at 12:36 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that a light-skinned black male entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. No weapon was displayed or threatened.
The suspect is described as a black male of average build, approximately 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 inches tall and weighing between 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing dark colored pants, a black leather jacket, a black beanie/skull cap and black sun glasses. The suspect also had, what appeared to be, white medical tape on his forehead, left cheek and nose.
He walked out of the bank and walked northeast and vanished, Sheriff James Voutour said.
Multiple Niagara County Sheriff’s Office patrol units, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the New York State Police responded. The United States Border Patrol helicopter also assisted in checking the area.
There was lockdown of Newfane schools as a precaution, although were no threats against the schools. Sheriff’s cars patrolled near the schools.
