Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The city will begin accepting electronic payment of parking ticket fines in January, Common Council Finance Committee Chairman Ken Genewick announced Wednesday.

The city previously made a deal with M&T Bank to process payment of city fines, fees and taxes by credit card, online through elockport.com and from kiosks at City Hall.

Parking fines are the first bill type that residents can pay electronically, effective Jan. 1. Additional bill types, including water/sewer and property tax bills, will be introduced gradually next year, Genewick said.

A kiosk will be set up at the City Clerk’s office to process credit payment of parking fines.

M&T will charge credit-card users a fee based on the size of the bill being paid. The fee is $3 per $100 of payment up to $500, and for transactions of $500.01 or more it’s 3 percent of the bill.
