Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Voting in the 2012 Pink Glove Dance Video contest has been extended to Nov. 2, and Briody Health Care Facility needs a boost to get closer to a cash prize for a breast cancer charity.
As of Monday, 10 days into the three-week online contest, Briody’s video ranked around 20th among 230 videos entered in the nationwide contest, the ranking based solely on how many votes it has received.
The contest has organizations making videos that show off pink medical gloves, pink being the “color” of breast cancer awareness, to win one of three cash prizes for a breast cancer-related charity. Briody’s entered a video on behalf of Robyn Lalley, a researcher at UB’s School of Nursing. The video stars the people and places of Lockport.
Medline, the contest sponsor, does not maintain a leaderboard showing competitors’ current standing. A Briody employee checked the vote counts on all entries late last week and estimated it’s coming in around 20th place.
As of Monday evening, its raw vote count was 1,132 — while the raw count for Lexington Medical Center of South Carolina, the first-place finisher in the 2011 video contest, was 12,258.
“I’m still keeping my chin up,” said Nancy Babis, Briody director of nursing.
Viewers who tried voting on the first day of the contest may have been unable, since the PinkGlove web site crashed.
“It’s better now; if that happened to you, please try again,” Babis said.
Voting for the Briody video can only be done through Facebook. To vote, go to www.facebook.com/medlinebreastcancerawareness; or go to www.pinkglovedance.com (where you’ll be redirected to Facebook).
