NEWFANE — A South Main Street auto shop caught fire around 1 p.m. Friday, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
Mills Automotive had heavy smoke showing when officers arrived, deputies said in a news release. Miller Hose and Olcott Fire companies responded initially, but Wrights Corners Aerial was requested to the scene.
The news release said there were no injuries reported and no dollar value in damage given yet.
Deputies said an employee was trying to start a fire in a 55-gallon barrel wood stove. The employee, who walked to the front of the building, heard an explosion and found the area around the barrel was on fire.
