A quick response from a Lockport police officer helped save the life of an elderly woman last week.
About 4:39 p.m. June 26, Officer Aric Morgan was dispatched to a parking lot on Professional Parkway for a report of a woman down in a parking lot.
John W. Crofts, a doctor, was performing CPR on an 80-year-old woman who reportedly had an unknown medical problem and had passed out.
I saw the doctor working on her,” Morgan said.
The woman did not have a pulse and was not breathing, the report said.
Crofts and Morgan quickly began a two-person rescue breathing operation.
An ambulance from the Lockport Fire Department had not yet arrived, and the two men continued to work on the woman.
By the time the ambulance arrived, the woman was slowly breathing on her own, the report said. She was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport.
Morgan said he responded to the hospital for a follow-up shortly afterward and was told the woman was awake and talking.
Lt. Brian Wentland said the rescue was “a good, quick response on Officer Morgan’s part.”
“It’s very, very rare to bring somebody back using CPR alone, once they’re in cardiac arrest,” Chief Larry Eggert said.
