Sheriff’s deputies responding to a suspicious person report on Hess Road early Tuesday ended up chasing suspects through a field with the help of Border Patrol helicopters.
A Hess Road man reported that landscaping equipment has been stolen several times in the past two weeks, with suspects fleeing into a nearby field.
Late Monday, a neighbor reported seeing an older model car in the area.
Deputies arrived about 12:01 a.m. and determined a larceny attempt on the landscaping equipment had just occurred, the report said.
Along with the K-9 dog, Sarge, deputies chased the suspects behind the residence, northbound into thick woods and then into a corn field east of Hess Road.
The track took the K-9 unit north through the corn, the report said.
A Border Patrol helicopter joined the search, and the K-9 dog followed tracks near two ponds, a group of pine trees and an area of thick brush behind a Hess Road home.
Another Border Patrol helicopter was called in, and the two helicopters made several passes through the area and did not see any suspects.
About 2:45 a.m., the search was called off.
The owner of the Hess Road property where the search began said there did not appear to be anything missing, the report said.
