BLOTTER: Police reports published Oct. 19

City of Lockport

• Assault: Jesus M. Ubiles, 37, 47 LaGrange St., Apt. 2, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree burglary, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed driving mid-Thursday. Ubiles is accused of entering an Erie Street home unwelcomed and punching and scratching a woman, according to the police report. Ubiles is scheduled to appear Oct. 22 in Lockport City Court.

• Unauthorized use: Ruben Colon Jr., 32, 292 Niagara St., was charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle early Thursday. A woman reported to police that Colon, who does not have a driver’s license, took her keys and vehicle without her permission. Colon was to be arraigned on the charge Thursday.

• DWI: Gary S. Mathewson, 29, 156 Beattie Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and unlawful possession of marijuana Wednesday night at Outwater Park. A police officer observed Mathewson’s vehicle parked at the overlook and when the officer approached, Mathewson sped through the park, the report said. The officer pulled Mathewson over and determined he showed signs of alcohol consumption. The officer also saw several pieces of drug paraphernalia lying on the passenger seat, the report said. Mathewson was held in lieu of $1,000 bail pending an Oct. 22 appearance in City Court.

• Disorderly conduct: Cynthia H. Hazzard, 40, 165 Genesee St., Apt. 3, and Catherine L. Brown, 40, 96 Locust St., Apt. 8, both were charged with disorderly conduct Wednesday night. A police officer observed the women standing on Genesee street, face-to-face, yelling and swearing at one another for several minutes, the report said. Hazzard and Brown both are scheduled to appear in City Court on Oct. 29.

• Drug bust: Christina M. Dent, 23, 39 Dayton St.; Rodney L. Banks, 30, 110 Gooding St.; and Ronald J. Lewis, 55, 110 Gooding St. all were charged with third- and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance Oct. 12 after execution of a search warrant at 110 Gooding by members of the Niagara County Drug Task Force. Charles L. Warren, 44, 204 Green St., Apt. 22, was charged with seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance. The task force search turned up unspecified quantities of an off-white substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, according to a Lockport police report.

• Illegal driving: Louis Wellington, 66, 177 Genesee St., Apt. 1, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving with suspended registration and driving with no/expired insurance Thursday evening. A police officer observed Wellington’s vehicle traveling east on Genesee Street and ran a registration check showing Wellington’s registration and driver’s license both are suspended and he has no insurance on the vehicle, the report said. Wellington was held in lieu of $100 bail, pending an Oct. 22 arraignment in City Court, and his license plates were confiscated, the report said.

Town of Lockport

• Attempted burglary: The owners of 6514 Creek Hollow report someone tried breaking into their home early Oct. 13. The burglar alarm went off around 3:50 a.m., the sheriff’s report said, and scratch marks were found on the exterior frame of a window. Window damage is estimated at $25.

• Petit larceny: A resident of 7015 Northview Drive reported a quantity of prescription pills taken from her purse at home sometime Tuesday. The victim estimated 110 hydrocodone pills and 10 Synthroid pills were taken. According to the sheriff’s report, the victim said a family member had company during the day.

• Shoplifting: Stacy M. Criswell, 17, 264 Niagara St., City of Lockport, was charged with petit larceny Wednesday afternoon. Security staff at Tops Market, 5827 S. Transit Road, observed Criswell take four tubes of hair color and a bag of bulk candy and put them in her purse. The sheriff’s report said the staff also watched Criswell take a bottle of strawberry milk, drink it and put the empty bottle into her purse. Criswell was stopped when she tried leaving the store without paying for the items, the report said. Criswell was arraigned by Town Justice Leonard Tilney and was held in lieu of $300 bail pending an Oct. 25 court appearance.

Newfane

• Assault: A 22-year-old Main Street resident said he was physically assaulted by several individuals late Tuesday while walking along the 2700 block of the street. According to the sheriff’s report, taken at Intercommunity Memorial Hospital, the male victim said he was approached by a large group that was menacing him. The victim armed himself with a crowbar, then dropped it when one of the group challenged him to a one-on-one fight. As the fight ensued, the report said, the aggressor grabbed the crowbar and struck the victim at least 12 times about his head and back. The victim said a woman in the group struck him as well. The victim was treated for lacerations. The case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the report said.

• Petit larceny: A resident of West Lake Road reported his red-and-silver, 10-speed mountain bike was taken from his garage sometime between Sept. 22 and Oct. 4. The bike’s value is estimated to be $300.

Pendleton

• Petit larceny: Svetlana P. Kitchen, 37, 6302 Heritage Point South, Lockport, was charged with petit larceny Wednesday. The owner of a Campbell Boulevard fruit stand reported to sheriff’s deputies that a video camera on her stand captured the image of Kitchen taking a basket of apples and not paying for them. Deputies tracked the registration of the vehicle shown in the footage, the report said. Kitchen is scheduled to appear in Pendleton Town Court on Oct. 24. The apples were valued at $5.

Somerset

• Petit larceny: A resident of 9225 Lake Road reported his blue, V-low mountain bike was taken from his yard sometime between Oct. 8 and 13. The bike, which has a gel seat and a rack on the back, is valued at $300.

Cambria

• Identity theft: A Budd Road resident reported her First Niagara bank card was used to make an unauthorized purchase at Wal-Mart in Clarence sometime after Sept. 22. The sheriff’s report, filed Oct. 13, indicates the victim believes the card was taken from her purse while she was in a computer lab at Niagara County Community College, since that was the only time she left her purse unattended. The victim became aware of the theft when she received notice of insufficient funds from the bank.

Wilson

• Trespass: Joshua David Talun, 18, 7292 Rochester Road, Lockport, was charged with second-degree criminal trespass Oct. 13 after he was found sleeping on a couch at 3069 W. Lake Road. The homeowner told sheriff’s deputies she’d been away from home Oct. 12 and when she returned the next day, she found Talun there. Talun told sheriff’s deputies he’d been at an all-night party in the house. The homeowner said she did not know Talun and did not authorize use of her house while she was away; the victim’s daughter, age not given, told deputies the same thing. Talun was held in lieu of $500 bail before an Oct. 16 appearance in Wilson Town Court.
