BLOTTER: Police reports published Oct. 17
Town of Lockport
• CHARGED: Eric J. Jankowski, 22, 6597 Royal Parkway, was charged with DWI, speeding and failure to attach a sticker. Jankowski was stopped on Old Beattie Road. The patrol noted an odor of alcohol, glassy eyes and impaired motor coordination. Jankowski reportedly failed field sobriety tests.
• BURGLARY: A Wheeler Road man reported $5,200 missing from the top of his dresser. The man had planned on paying a bill over the weekend and emptied his pockets onto his dresser upon returning home. He went back to retrieve the money a few days later and observed it was missing.
• BURGLARY: Items valued at $2,408 were taken from a Whispering Pines Drive residence. Missing items included a Canon printer/copier, a Fisher stereo, a Nintendo game cube, Orion 25 television; Sanyo 25 and various DVD movies. The owner said he and his family left the residence on Friday at approximately 5 p.m. did not arrive home until Saturday about 4 p.m. The screen from the bathroom window was on the ground and items were thrown about the shed.
Charged: Terry E. Tennyson, 24, 1279 Norwood Drive was charged with driving while intoxicated. The Patrol responded to Mount View for a possible assault. Tennyson stated that a suspect held a knife to his throat while he was driving from Niagara Falls. The patrol determined that his claim was unfounded. The Patrol detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, and observed glassy eyes, impaired speech, and impaired motor coordination. Tennyson was failed four field sobriety tests.
Porter
• FIRE: A Tuesday morning fire destroyed an empty apartment at 3309 Creek Road in Youngstown. Chief Eric Wieland of the Youngstown Fire Co. reported the building as a total loss and estimated damage to the 900-square-foot structure at $30,000, including contents. An investigation is ongoing. Cause and origin personnel from Ransomville Fire Co. were on the scene prior to part of the building being demolished for safety reasons. When the sheriff’s deputies arrived at about 7:30 a.m., the building was fully involved. There were no tenants were inside at the time of the incident. A tenant in the residence directly behind 3309 Creek Road stated that at approximately 6:43 a.m., he heard what he called a "boom, boom" noise from the apartment building in front of his residence. He looked out his bedroom window and noticed the building in front of his was on fire and called 911. The owner, Willard F. Antoncich, stated that a tenant recently moved out of the residence, leaving it empty. The residence was recently remodeled, and utilities were still turned on at the time of the fire.
Ransomville
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Three vehicles at Dan’s Auto Sales, 370 Ransomville Road, were damaged sometime over the weekend. There was $1,000 damage to a 1999 Dodge Caravan tailgate and window; to a 2000 Dodge Caravan hood and headlight; and to a 1994 Caravan. A tenant reported that about midnight on Sunday, he saw a small group of teenagers behind the building making some noise. The teenagers ran off, according to reports. The patrol noted that all vehicles damaged are vehicles used solely for spare parts and are not registered vehicles for driving purposes.
Gasport
• BURGLARY: A Hosmer Road resident reported a break-in at their home at 4 p.m. Monday. The owner reported that at some time between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., someone forcefully entered the home. The bedroom window air conditioner had been removed and was lying on the ground outside the home, under the window. There were two muddy boot marks on the carpet, as well as in the side hallway. Some parts of the home and furnishings appeared to be rummaged through or out of place.
Royalton
• BURGLARY: A Slayton Settlement Road resident reported on 4 p.m. Monday that sometime after 1 p.m., someone kicked in the rear door of her residence causing $1,000 damage. There was nothing missing or taken. Patrol checked the perimeter for any other evidence, with negative results.
Pendleton
• BURGLARY: A Tonawanda Creek Road resident reported several items were stolen from an unlocked, unattached garage on Tuesday. Two Sears garden hoses; 20 flat landscaping rocks; and an Evenflo children’s play set and a Graco baby stroller were taken. The total loss was $390.
Royalton
• BURGLARY: A Lincoln Avenue Extension resident reported a side/rear door of the residence was kicked in, causing $249 in damage on Monday. The deputy found a set of wet footprints on the deck leading up to the door. Wet vehicle tire marks were found in the driveway. Patrol believed that the unknown suspect did not make entry. Photos and fingerprints were taken of the scene.
Town of Niagara
• PETIT LARCENY: The sheriff’s patrol responded to a suspicious person call at Lockport and Walmore roads. The suspicious person was found in possession of $620 worth of assorted items, including two Schwinn bikes, hydrochlorothiazide, hydrocodone, Ibuprofen and a stereo faceplate.
Olcott
• BURGLARY: Beer, wine and $100 in cash were taken from Carmello’s Italian Kitchen on Saturday. There were no signs of forced entry. The loss was set at $209.
Wheatfield
• RECOVERED PROPERTY: A Niagara Falls man discovered a granite tombstone on Liberty Drive in the area of the railroad tracks. It was engraved, “Lemmar G. Harrison, Dec. 18,1919 - Aug 11, 1961.”
North Tonawanda
• LARCENY: A Kelsey Road resident reported that a $1,500 computer was taken from her unlocked vehicle. The victim uses the computer for her work at a local school district.
Barker
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: A Coleman Road resident reported a fuel oil tank located on the property was mostly filled with water. The fuel tank had not been checked in several months. He drained approximately 40 gallons of water out of the fuel tank, which was used for the furnace that heats the residence.
Newfane
• CHARGED: John M. Vosburgh, 23, 3346 Ewings Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right. The patrol made a traffic stop on Lockport-Olcott Road. The patrol said they detected the odor of alcohol on the suspect’s breath. Vosburgh failed three sobriety tests, according to reports, registering a .25 percent BAC.
