Newfane preps for National Night Out

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NEWFANE— The Countryside Community Neighborhood Watch (CCNW), which serves all of the Town of Newfane, including Olcott, Burt, Appleton, Ridgewood and Wrights Corners, is sponsoring its annual National Night Out on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Newfane Town Hall.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office will have a K-9 demonstration and there will be a bounce house for children.

The Niagara University Border Community Service will provide information about disaster preparedness including upcoming Community Emergency Response Training (CERT). The Miller Hose and Olcott Fire Departments will also participate in Newfane’s National Night Out event.

The Wrights Corners Fire Department and Niagara County Sheriff’s bloodhound will particpate.

The CCNW will host its traditional flashlight walk around the streets of the central area of the town. The flashlight walk is open to anyone with a flashlight and good walking shoes. It will begin about 8:30 p.m.

National Night Out, which started in the mid-1970’s, is an event for all citizens of cities, towns, and villages to unite to make a strong statement against crime and enhance crime prevention efforts.

The CCNW, established in 2007, has the motto “Watch, Record, and Report,” and continues to work with the Sheriff’s Office. For further information about Newfane’s National Night Out celebration or about the CCNW, contact Denise Rivers, at 778-5181.
