Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Rochester native and Niagara University graduate is among the latest casualties of the War in Afghanistan.
Pfc. Theodore M. Glende, 23, was killed July 27 while serving in Logar Province, according to the Department of Defense.
Officials say Glende was fatally wounded when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire.
Glende was a member of the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.
He was a 2011 graduate of NU.
In a statement released Sunday, Niagara University President, Father Joseph Levesque, said:
“The Niagara University community is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own. Matt was called to serve and made the ultimate sacrifice for God and Country. We extend our sincerest sympathy and prayers to the Glende family during this most difficult time.”
Glende had just recently married his wife, Alexandria.
