Pendleton has positive reaction to recycle totes

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

PENDLETON — The town is entering a new program affecting the way the residents recycle. New 64-gallon wheeled and covered totes will be distributed to each residence beginning the week of Jan. 14.

Using the “single stream” system of recycling, all recyclable materials will be placed in the new totes. Collection from the totes will be every other week.

Pendleton Supervisor James Riester reported that this new program will save the Town $30,000 per year and hopefully make recycling easier for the residents.

"So far so good," Riester said Thursday. "I haven't heard anyone say anything negative. The tote is free and it's easier to roll it out. It's all positive."

The totes will be dark blue with green lids. However, if a resident so chooses, a pink tote can be ordered at the Town Hall by calling 625-8833, by Dec. 5. Purchasing pink totes helps support breast cancer awareness.

A one-time donation of $5 will be given directly to the Breast Cancer Awareness Program in this area for each pink tote purchased. The program is similar to one that was launched in the City of Lockport.
