Medical building ahead of schedule

LOCKPORT —

Construction of the new Great Lakes Surgical Associates office, 160 East Ave., is ahead of schedule, after an unusually warm and dry winter. The general contractor previously gave a finish date of May 31, but the suites should be open for patients of Lockport surgeons Jeffrey Schratz and Robert Hodge well before that, Great Lakes office manager Susan Lougen said Tuesday. Interior renovation of the former Medical Building is nearly complete; floors are down, cabinets are installed, and painting is under way.

The exterior has been made over and an addition erected in back. The surgeons are investing over $1 million in developing the suites and are still in the process of obtaining the state’s permission to operate it as an ambulatory surgical center, Lougen said; some space will be available in the building for use by surgeons/practitioners in specialty fields such as orthopedics, radiology and sports medicine.

Here are a few views of the renovation work in progress.
