— — Lockport police are continuing their investigation into Monday night's double shooting.
Police have not released many details, but the shooting appears to have been drug-related and occurred in an apartment near downtown.
According to Detective Rick Podgers, chief of detectives, two men were shot inside the apartment and both fled, going in separate directions. Police have not released the names of the victims.
One of the victims was shot in the hand and drove away in search of a hospital. Podgers said the man, who is from Niagara Falls and has "limited knowledge" of Lockport, didn't know where to go. He saw a group of people smoking outside the 21st Amendment bar and restaurant and asked for directions to the hospital.
Someone in the group then had 911 called, and police responded to the bar.
"He also asked if one of them could take him to the hospital, but the guys weren't going to get in the car," Jon George, owner of 21st Amendment said. "A girl form the group came inside and said a guy pulled up and apparently has been shot."
George said that's when he called 911.
Podgers said that "a short time later" police received a call from a woman at a second address. The woman said that her boyfriend had just returned home and had been shot. The US&J has independently confirmed that the second shooting victim fled to 317 Washburn.
Police have declined to say where the shootings occurred, but Podgers said it was a few blocks from the Washburn address. He added it's not clear if the second shooting victim drove there or fled on foot.
The second victim suffered a bullet wound to his torso and was first taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport. He was later transferred to Erie County Medical Center.
Police searched the area around the shooting with a K-9 but have not yet recovered a weapon.
"We have a lot of leads and we know the names of some of the people inside the apartment," Podgers told the Union-Sun & Journal. "We are trying to locate all the individuals who were inside."
No arrests have been made.
