Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The Johnson Family which was blown out of its Town of Wilson home on Tuesday will have a place to stay after release from the Erie County Medical Center.
The house on Chestnut Road was destroyed and 14-year-old Sarah Johnson was killed. Katie, 18, was burned over 75 percent of her body and remains in critical condition at the burn unit of ECMC.
Dad, Jody Johnson, and Nathan, 14, are in good condition. Mom, Judith, was listed in fair condition Thursday evening after suffering a seizure on Tuesday.
Jody and Judy are Army veterans and the family lived in Germany until five years ago. They moved to Wilson and Judy, a nurse, worked at Niagara Hospice. The children attended Wilson schools.
Jody, a graduate of Niagara-Wheatfield, served in the Army for 22 years.
The Red Cross visited the family and provided vouchers for food and clothing. Senior Director of Emergency Services Kenneth Turner also offered temporary housing for the family.
Members of the community have also offered housing help, according to Red Cross spokesman Joseph Bonafede. Disaster Mental Health volunteers are available to provide the family with emotional support.
"We made sure they were aware of our services," Bonafede said. "It's up to them."
The Johnsons are members of the Ransomville Free Methodist Church and Pastor Bill Lowery has been with the family at ECMC. Coaches, teachers and students have visited the family.
