Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — An Amherst woman faces a reckless endangerment charge after Lockport police say she allegedly drove off in her car while a tow truck driver was hanging on to the vehicle's hood.
Sarah A. Stokes, 27, of 28 Fairchild Drive, Amherst, was arrested Saturday afternoon and is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Oct. 5 when the tow truck driver went to 187 High St. to tow a vehicle from the parking lot, at the request of the property owner.
The victim, an employee of Harrington's Service, told police he was in the parking lot waiting for another employee to arrive when a woman came up to the vehicle and began yelling at him.
The victim said he tried to explain to the woman why he was towing the vehicle. However, he said the woman made a phone call, and soon two men showed up and began to push the driver.
The woman then allegedly got into the car and appeared to be trying to leave. The victim stood in front of the woman's car but she continued moving the vehicle and soon the man wound up on the car's hood.
The woman then pulled out of the parking lot with the tow truck driver still clinging to the hood and began to drive on Maple Street, toward High Street.
According to the report, shortly after she got on the street, the victim was thrown off the vehicle. He suffered a large scratch on his right forearm.
A witness offered a statement to police.
Officers left messages for Stokes, the car's owner. She came to the Lockport Police Department on Oct. 8 to give a statement and a report said "she knowingly drove away with the victim on the car with the intention to attempt to remove him from her vehicle."
Bail was set at $500.
