Kurt Driscoll knows what it takes to make a car run well. He also knows what it takes to run a business well.

“Trust,” Driscoll said. “It’s something you earn.”

Driscoll is the owner of Lockport Family Car Care, an auto repair shop located at 397 West Ave. Opened in March, Lockport Family Car Care offers vehicle and boat repair at an affordable cost. It also offers advice on vehicle care and preventative maintenance. Lockport Family Car Care shares 397 West Ave. with CMC Auto Sales.

“It’s the little things that wear parts out, not the big things,” Driscoll said.

Driscoll has some experience in the automotive field as well as dealing with customers. His wife Tammy said Driscoll was a manager for a chain of auto repair shops, working in a number of locations and providing service for a number of customers. Driscoll said he has worked about 31 years in automotive repair.

“Some of the best technicians are in these little shops,” Driscoll said. “They really know how to fix cars.”

Driscoll is a General Motors trained mechanic, being trained at a school in Rochester. He is also a fisherman, who has been in the business for about 13 years.

Lockport Family Car Care uses a computer program that provides information on every vehicle, make and model. It helps Driscoll and his staff reach the best conclusion on every vehicle that comes through their shop, avoiding any unnecessary work or cost to the customer.

“I’m a perfectionist,” Driscoll admitted.

One of Driscoll’s customers brought her car in a day before she was leaving for a long drive to Florida. The customer had just been laid off from her job but the family vacation had been planned for some time. Driscoll noticed something was wrong with the vehicle’s axle bearings. Driscoll called the customer to inform her about it, but she still needed the vehicle for the trip. Driscoll worked late and had the vehicle ready to go the next morning, just in time for the vacation.

“It’s trust,” Driscoll said. “And they’ll be back.”
