Staff Reports
Police used pepper spray early Friday to subdue one of four suspects reportedly found spray-painting a wall and the pavement on John Street.
Officers responded to John Street about 12:05 a.m. for a report of juveniles spray-painting a wall.
They reportedly found four people — Christopher L. Holmes, 16, 4 Walnut St., upper; Thomas M. Washburn, 19, 251 Caledonia St., Lot A5; Richard L. Zuehlke, 27, 19 John St.; and Brittany A. Doxey, 16, 6 John St., rear — gathered near the area where the vandalism was reported.
While interviewing the four, officers said they smelled paint and noticed spray paint cans in their hands.
Several symbols had been painted on the wall and in the roadway.
Another can of spray paint was found near the wall, police said.
While the four suspects were being handcuffed, Holmes allegedly refused to cooperate, and officers used pepper spray on him.
Holmes accused the officers of breaking his cell phone, according to the report.
All four suspects were charged with making graffiti and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Holmes, Washburn and Zuehlke were each held on $250 bail. Doxey was released on her own recognizance.
All four are due Monday in Lockport City Court.
