Soccer Lions shut down Jacks

Lions blank NT, 5-0; Lady Lions cruise past Lady Jacks, 2-0.

LOCKPORT —

It rained throughout the first half of Wednesday’s Niagara Frontier League boys soccer game at Lockport High School.
Goals, that is.
Under sunny skies, the host Lions woke up out of their slumber at the 15:19 mark of the first half in their game against the   visiting North Tonawanda Lumberjacks.
Thirty-seven seconds later, it was 2-0 Lockport, seven-and-a-half minutes after that it was 3-0 Lions, three minutes later   it was 4-0 blue and gold and finally, three minutes after that and it was 5-0.
The Lions scored five goals in less than 15 minutes and by then, head coach Jeff Hulshoff had emptied the bench as the state-ranked   Lions cruised the rest of the way, winning 5-0, improving to 3-0 in the NFL and 5-0 overall.
The two teams slugged it out early and the Jacks had the better scoring opportunities, but Lions’ keeper junior Bailey Reid   and the Lions would not be scored upon for a fifth straight contest.
Junior Hunter Sherman got the party started with a great goal to open the scoring. Junior Joshua Beshaw cross the ball from   the left side over to senior co-captain Alex Reid on the right side of the net. Reid dished nicely to Sherman, who drilled   it into a wide open net for a 1-0 Lions lead with 24:41 left in the first half.
The fleet-footed Ford took a great long pass from Nick Sammarco and simply out-ran the NT defense, deking the Jacks keeper   with a neat move before scoring at 24:04 to make it 2-0 LHS.
Reid, the league’s top scorer with eight goals, had another great assist, timing his pass to Beshaw perfectly at 16:34 as   Beshaw drilled it up high to make it 3-0. Reid made it 4-0 Lions with 13:19 left in the half, chipped a shot over the keeper’s   head.
Sammarco, a great two-way player, rounded out the scoring for Lockport, netting a goal with 9:58 left in the first half. Sammarco   saw an opening and took it, streaking in with the ball then drilling a hard shot off the keeper and into the right corner   of the net.
Among those seeing time was Yves Luginbuehl, an LHS foreign exchange student from Switzerland.

The game was broadcast live by Lockport Community Television (LCTV). Jim Slowey and Tom Voss called all the action ... The   referees were Jerry Wysocki and Jim Samsel ... With the loss, head coach Tom Stefanucci’s Jacks dropped to 0-2 in the NFL   and are 0-3 overall.
